Pricing Policy
The cost-per-hour is not the only consideration when evaluating vendors for an outsource
documentation project. Some technical communicators comprehend technical data
more quickly and create final documents faster than less experienced or less
educated writers.
The actual cost of an outsource document is not only the vendor cost but also the following
additional client cost.
· Cost for internal staff to transfer knowledge.
· Cost for internal staff to review the document for acceptance.
· Cost for internal staff to maintain the document content as current and
re-usable.
· Cost for end-user future support by internal staff (customer service).
William Edewaard, with a mechanical engineering education and background of many
years as a mechanical engineer, can
substantially reduce the internal staff involvement
Projects are accepted on the following basis:
· Cost-per-hour
Invoiced for hours worked on a weekly basis unless other agreements are made.
· Cost-per-hour not to exceed a maximum cost
If a project is very well defined, so that the project specifications, project
schedule, client responsibilities, and Edewaard Technical responsibilities have
a degree of certainty, then a cost-per-hour with a not-to-exceed ceiling can be
agreed upon before project initiation. Invoiced on a weekly basis unless other
agreements are made.
· Total cost for project
If a project is defined such that project schedule, client responsibilities, and
Edewaard Technical responsibilities are known and all project specifications
(drawings and all associated materials) are in Edewaard Technical
’s possession, then a total cost for the first draft can be established before
project initiation. Changes and additions can result in a cost increase.
Invoices are submitted on a milestone schedule.
· Development Projects
Development projects change frequently after the initial concept. Unanticipated
problems can adversely affect the most carefully calculated time and cost
estimates. Projects are best conducted on a time-and-material basis when
parameters will likely change or the project plan is ill-defined.
